Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church in Duson for John Elridge Lagneaux, 63, who passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2007 at his residence in Duson.
Interment was in St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Cemetery in Duson.
Reverend Joseph H. Stemmann was the Celebrant of the funeral mass and conducted the funeral services. Musical selections were "Amazing Grace" and a special rendition of "I Did It My Way" by Elvis Pressley. Lectors were Meghan Crooks and Elizabeth Billeaud. Giftbearers were Wilma Trahan and Donna Dartez.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 10 years, Susie M. Lagneaux; five daughters, Sandra Lagneaux of Duson, Shelia Crooks and her husband, Jack of Duson, Angelia Laborde and her husband, Scott of Marksville, Tonya Billeaud and her husband, Tony of Lafayette and Lynn Lagneaux of Duson; one son, Johnny Lagneaux of Duson; one step-daughter, Crystal Reaux and her husband, Chuck of New Iberia; three step-sons, Michael Porter of Duson, Chris Porter of New Iberia, and Jason Porter and his wife, Shawna of Kalamazoo, MI.; twenty-two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; and one brother, Vernon Lagneaux of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elridge John Lagneaux and Edmae Falcon Lagneaux; and his first wife, Ludie Meche Lagneaux.
He was avid hunter with Whiskey Bay Hunting Club, Inc., the unopposed Mayor of the Town of Duson for nine years, loved sports and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved cooking in his outdoor kitchen which was known as "The Mayor's Kitchen". He retired from the State of Louisiana DOTD after thirty six years of service.
A native and lifelong resident of Duson, Louisiana Mr. Lagneaux was a loving husband, father, step father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. He was a member of the St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church Community in Duson.
Pallbearers were Jack Crooks, Scott Laborde, Michael Porter, Rocky LeBlanc, Jason Porter, Matthew Crooks, Ryan LeBlanc and Mickal McMath. Honorary Pallbearers will be Eugene Cahanin, Randy Stelly, and Chuck Reaux.
A Rosary was prayed on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Lafayette.
